The iPhone vs. Carriers and the Consumer Experience
June 13, 2007 | Tech Trends
On Tuesday, GigaOm reported on a few ways that the iPhone will change the wireless business. I think he brought up a very fascinating point as to how the iPhone will cause the carrier-consumer relationship to change. Currently, when you log onto your web browser on your phone, you are forced to use the web and search services provided by your carrier. And as we all know, consumers like to have a choice when it comes to our interconnectivity preferences. From a PR standpoint, it will be interesting to watch how aggressive Apple will push the Safari browser on the iPhone.
In the end it all comes down to a good consumer experience on your phone. People will buy the iPhone if it’s easy to use and the features seem worthwhile. This is a trend we often run into with EA Mobile who is a proponent of getting carriers and handset manufactures to create an optimal experience for consumers who buy their cell phone games. As the company’s VP for Worldwide Studios recently explained in an interview with FierceGameBiz, “We want to make the best experience for the consumer, and what moves the needle the most on that is new handsets. We need to bring a better game experience to the consumer””as that grows you’ll see the market grow.”
