Landing a Career in Public Relations. Views from our PR Interns on Life Inside a PR Agency.

Sparkpr’s interns have been writing regular blogs at Eye of the Intern about their three-month-long internships at our company. Eye of the Intern is a blog run by Internships.com and the site covers all aspects of career development, including intern stories.

Two of Sparkpr’s interns, Rachel and Lyndsey, have made the cut from interns to full-time account coordinators. One of our PR interns named Diane has changed directions and moved on from Sparkpr, while PR intern Meghan is still looking to land a job at the company.

Meghan writes about her day-to-day challenges of working in a fast paced work environment, the tools she uses to do her new job and how she is “learning through doing” by attending industry events and interacting with the media. She is a terrific writer and her posts are witty, honest and insightful. She writes, “You’re picking up coverage, not dry cleaning” and “Spark’s open door (since there are no doors) policy facilitates education.” In one of Meghan’s posts, she interviews her manager to determine the top five qualities he looks for in an intern. Smart girl and certainly a future PR pro!

When I talked to Meghan and asked her what she enjoys most about being a Sparkpr intern, she told me she feels treated like a real team member and is equally responsible for her work product.
